Miah's Blessing

Supporting families. Creating brighter futures.

WHo are we ?

We are a registered Scottish charity created to support mothers, expectant mothers, parents, carers, babies, children, young people, young adults and families who are experiencing hardship, crisis, disadvantage or isolation.

Our work is rooted in compassion, dignity and community. We understand that families can face difficult times for many reasons, including financial pressure, pregnancy or new baby needs, lack of support, housing difficulties, wellbeing challenges, caring responsibilities or sudden crisis. We aim to provide practical help in a way that is respectful, inclusive and non-judgemental.

We support families through essential items, donated goods, family support, signposting, referrals and emergency help where resources allow. We also aim to create positive opportunities for young people and young adults through music, creative arts, wellbeing activities and confidence-building support.

We believe that small acts of support can make a real difference. Whether it is providing nappies, wipes, clothing, hygiene products, a listening ear, a referral, a creative opportunity or a safe community connection, our goal is to help people feel supported, valued and less alone.
We provide practical, compassionate support for families who are experiencing hardship, crisis, disadvantage or isolation. This includes essential items such as baby supplies, nappies, wipes, clothing, hygiene products and household goods, as well as donated goods, signposting, referrals and emergency support where resources allow.
Alongside our family support, we create positive opportunities for young people and young adults through music, creative arts, wellbeing activities and community-based support. We focus on reducing hardship, building confidence, improving wellbeing and helping families and young people feel supported, connected and valued.

WHAT are we doing?

WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

We do this because too many families in Scotland are still facing hardship, pressure and isolation, often while trying to care for children, manage rising living costs and access the right support. For some parents, carers, mothers and expectant mothers, even basic essentials such as nappies, wipes, baby items, hygiene products, clothing and household goods can become difficult to afford.

Recent Scottish Government figures show that around 17% of people in Scotland — about 940,000 people — were living in relative poverty after housing costs, and around 21% of children — about 210,000 children each year — were living in relative poverty after housing costs. This means many children and families are growing up with fewer resources, fewer choices and more daily pressure.

We also recognise that Scotland’s communities are becoming increasingly diverse, and that people’s experiences of hardship are not all the same. Families may face barriers because of poverty, isolation, language, culture, health, disability, caring responsibilities, housing difficulties, crisis situations or lack of local support. We believe help should be practical, respectful, inclusive and easy to access.

Our charity exists to provide support that meets real-life needs. This may include essential items, donated goods, emergency help where resources allow, signposting, referrals, wellbeing activities and community connection. We want families to feel seen, supported and treated with dignity, not judged for needing help.

We are also committed to creating positive opportunities for children, young people and young adults. Through youth music, creative arts, mentoring and wellbeing activities, we aim to give young people safe spaces to build confidence, express themselves, develop skills and feel connected to their community.

At the heart of our work is a simple belief: no family should feel alone in a time of hardship, and every young person deserves the chance to feel supported, valued and hopeful about their future.

WHAT IS THE GOAL?

Our goal is to reduce hardship, isolation and disadvantage by making practical support easier for families to access when they need it most. We want to support mothers, expectant mothers, parents, carers, babies, children, young people, young adults and families with compassion, dignity and respect.

We aim to provide practical help such as baby essentials, nappies, wipes, clothing, hygiene products, household items, donated goods, emergency support where resources allow, signposting and referrals. By meeting immediate needs, we hope to ease pressure on families and help them feel less alone during difficult times.

By the end of 2027, our aim is to support at least 50 mothers and expectant mothers through practical family support, essential items, donated goods, signposting, wellbeing support and community connection.

By April 2027, our aim is to reach around 150 people in total, including parents, carers, babies, children, young people, young adults and families through practical family support, donated goods, essential items, wellbeing support and creative opportunities.

Alongside practical support, we want to create safe and positive spaces where young people can express themselves, build confidence, develop skills and feel connected to their community. Through music, creative arts, mentoring and wellbeing activities, we aim to help young people feel valued, heard and hopeful about their future.

Our wider goal is to build a supportive community where families can access help without judgement, young people can find positive opportunities, and people facing hardship know they are not alone.
